Arabic is often considered one of the most difficult languages for non-Arabic speakers to learn. However, while learning Arabic has its challenges, such as learning a different alphabet with different spellings, there are many features that are arguably simpler than many European languages. At the Lessane Arabi Center, our experienced teachers ensure that learning Arabic is achievable and accessible to everyone.

What kind of Arabic do we teach?

At the Lessane Arabi Center, we teach Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and Darija (the local Moroccan dialect).

How long does it take to learn Arabic?

As with all language learning, each student progresses at a different pace, depending on their previous experience, the intensity of their lessons, and how often they practice outside class hours.

What's the difference between Darija (Moroccan Arabic) and MSA (standard Arabic)?

Darija is the language Moroccans use on a daily basis, and is a variant of Arabic containing words from other languages. Standard Arabic, on the other hand, is used for formal written communication, news broadcasts and newspapers. Although they have much in common in terms of vocabulary and grammatical structures. There are also differences in grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Darija borrows words from Amazigh, French and Spanish. It is specific to Moroccans, and may not be understood by other Arabic speakers.

Can I learn MSA and Darija at the same time?

We offer the possibility of learning Darija at the same time as Standard Arabic through two separate courses. It is important that students approach Darija and MSA as two distinct languages to avoid any confusion or misinterpretation of either language.
