We all know how languages work, though the first one that we learned was much easier because we heard everyone else in our home speaking it and so desperately wanted to communicate. The same is not the case with second language you learn. For a better part of the world, that language is English however, for some others it might be something else like Malay, Mandarin, Latin, French, or Arabic. Whatever be the language, the basic technique is somewhat same. Here, we will specifically talking about Arabic to understand this fact better.
They say that you need to invest in grammar if you wish to sustain in standard Arabic. You may learn the basics by hearing others talk and observe their pronunciations. However, if you need to get fluent in Arabic, you will have to invest some good amount of time and energy into Arabic grammar. The thing is that most people are impatient with grammar, there are so many courses on net that promise to teach grammar within a week or ten days. A simple method teach you the vocab related to banks, markets, and hotels but Arabic is an inflected language which means the endings of words are indispensable. It means you will have to learn 10 forms of verbs in all five tenses, plural, dual, as well as singular numbers along with female and male genders. Arabic also addresses noun in three cases which means if you are a learner you will need to differentiate between “your two sons went to hotel for dinner yesterday” and “you went to hotel for dinner yesterday”. That’s tricky and a one week internet course may not be perfect for meeting your requirements.
English has near-absence for inflections which makes Arabic an international language. It also takes away the chances of making learning Arabic any easier. This explains why you need to invest considerable amount of energy and time in speaking Arabic. All Arabic countries make use of the Modern Standard Arabic in schools for religious and cultural reasons. The term used for teaching Arab children Modern Standard Arabic is known as “Fus-ha”. This is very much similar to teaching British or American Middle English to a first grade kid. Children adapt to grammar by hearing grammatical Constructions in their surroundings. So, if Arab make use of “Fus-ha” on everyday basis, children will learn the language just like Greek and Russian children who are masters of their native language. Along with, the Arab children get to excel in conjugations of their own vernaculars that are completely different from the ancient fuss-ha grammar.
Human brains are easy when it comes to learning patterns which means if you start learning the ancient Standard Arabic verb form it will be like learning mathematical regularity. Therefore, it is a must for schools and colleges to start investing and Arabic grammar on an early stage. That would definitely help in creating a strong foundation for future generations.
